The Future of Augmented Reality in Mobile applications

Future of Augmented Reality

Today nobody is surprised by the presence of GPS in a mobile device. The main trend of 2017 is the transition of existing local applications to the technology of cloud computing, in other words, the transformation of applications into services. In addition, over the past 9-12 months, a lot of services have appeared, combining mobility, geo-positioning, local content, as well as user-generated content, which fully exploit the computing capabilities of the server, combining them with the mobility of use. What is this all for?Future of Augmented Reality

Definitely, there is a huge reason behind. The whole new way of life can be presented by development of just one technology – augmented reality. In different ways this technology slowly penetrates into our lives, but still it’s too weak. Actually, are we already prepared for such a know-how? Not so much. Let’s take a look at the areas where augmented reality has been already applied successfully.

  • Development and Design;
  • Education;
  • Marketing;

Development and Design

The potential of augmented reality technologies in the field of development and design is colossal. The physical prototypes, which we are using now can be completely replaced with a digital product. It will show the final version of its use far more effective. The ability to evaluate a full-scale interactive prototype in a context and interact with it, whether it’s industrial equipment, architectural-scale products or upgraded systems, opens up unlimited possibilities.

The most interesting part is some vendors are already trying to use displays with support for augmented reality and manual interaction technology (with the help of hands, not the controller). By combining such solutions with suitable equipment, we can discover new ways of interacting with geometric models and perform simulations outside of flat displays with high resolution to achieve greater results.

Education

I will not write about traditional things like game apps they are too obvious. I will talk about entertainment, but with some educational purposes. Remember your last sightseeing tour? It takes a lot of time to prepare properly. You need to download tracks, print a map with the numbers on it, and then walk around following the map all the time. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the track in the player. Well I have good news for you. In advanced world of technology you just need to install the application, download the tour, and then GPS will do the job for you. Sounds much more interesting, isn’t it?

Marketing

In November 2016, the French network of department stores Galeries Lafayette used AR to display a story about the family of polar bears that go far from the North Pole due to melting ice. History came to life in front of the visitors’ eyes with the help of their mobile devices or through tablets located in the store. The idea of the project was to attract customers for more visits and, accordingly, more purchases and higher profits in the long term. Fresh, smart…Awesome.

But is Augmented reality limited only to the areas mentioned above? Unfortunately, yes, but the best part is the continuing development.

AR can be implemented in any projects aimed at reality with the virtual elements. Augmented reality is not tomorrow but today. Well it’s not possible to say that it has really entered the market yet. Nevertheless, it’s becoming harder to live by inertia and do not use the technological miracle available. Thus we slow down the descent of expensive technologies of limited accessibility downstream the consumer ladder to the mass market.

Might be the main reason is that we need this technology in other areas such as Home and Way of life? Once we introduce augmented reality into our homes, a real AR era will begin. The logical question is – why do we need all this? And a logical answer – imagine if all the technologies of augmented reality, from the simplest to the fanciest, will come together in one apartment: the usability of the home and the emotional quality of your day will be more fascinating by an order of magnitude. Impressed? Would like to get to know more.
