Every business online needs marketing. We know this. What we don’t know is what type of marketing to use? We get asked this all the time by readers of this website and we always provide the same answer. It depends on what you need or what you want the outcome to be. We could say that you should be using SEO, but that doesn’t help much because SEO stands for search engine optimization.
Basically what we’re then saying is that you should be working to increase the ranking of your site online. But of course, anything you do online related to your business affects your site ranking. You might be posting on social media or adding some links. It doesn’t matter; it’s all going to have an impact on your ranking. To help you out with finding where you should be focusing the effort, we’ll look at a few different types of SEO.
Organic SEO
Organic SEO essentially means that your ranking increases without payment. Before you get the wrong idea, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re sorting out the SEO on your site yourself. You might still be using SEO services from a professional marketing business. But you won’t be paying the owner of the search engine to put your business at the top. Your business will still be in the organic search results listings. It sounds a little complicated, but it’s not really. Organic results are those under the highlighted sponsored results that you find at the top of every SERP. We’ll get back to the sponsored section a little further down. For now, let’s just concentrate on the fact that organic SEO is typically favoured by business owners for a good reason. It’s where most consumers click to find a product, service or site.
PPC
Now we come back to the sponsored links we mentioned. Sponsored links are a form of paid for SEO. You will pay a company to have your business site at the top of the SERPs. But, as the old saying goes if it sounds too good to be true it probably is because there is a catch. You’ll pay a price based on how many clicks and hits you get. If you get thousands, you’re going to be paying a lot of money for this service. Not to worry though because you’ll have the profits you need right? Wrong, you’re paying for clicks not purchases. There’s no guarantee that everyone clicking on your site is making purchase. You can’t even guarantee they’ll stick around for more than ten seconds.
Content Marketing
What is content marketing? Content refers to images, video or text that you post online. Usually, on your business site. By doing this you hope that the content is shared. Every time a piece of information is shared from your site your search ranking will increase. This is why you need to make sure you are adding good content that is interesting and exciting. It needs to be something that your visitors want to spread across the net. It’s one of the best and easiest forms of SEO. But, only if you know how to do it.
We hope we’ve shed some light on some of the main forms of SEO. Now, you should be able to choose which one to use for your business.
