How to Motivate Your Staff in 3 Easy Steps

Home > Small Business > How to Motivate Your Staff in 3 Easy Steps

According to a Gallup’s 142-country study, only 13 percent of employees worldwide are engaged at work. In other words, only one out of eight workers are psychologically committed to their jobs. This study should be a wake-up call for all business owners. A motivated workforce means enhanced productivity, more creativity, increased quality, and better outcomes.

How To Motivate Your Staff

Rather than a bigger paycheck, there are several other ways to motivate your employees. Take Google, for example; they provide a great environment for their employees with free food, nap rooms, and many more perks. Of course, not all companies can afford to do that, but you can still offer your employees certain benefits within a budget, which will surely motivate them to work harder.

Here are 3 easy steps to motivate your staff without a pay raise:

1. Make Communications Your Top Priority

You can build a stronger company by improving your communication processes with your clients. How? By being available and reliable. For instance, with a phone system that gives your employees the tools to carry out their work more efficiently, you can accomplish a lot. Seriously. Check my VoIP phone system provider (if you need further information about VoIP phone systems), and take a look at how this has motivated my employees:

  • Flexibility is now available and employees are no longer tied down to their desks
  • Managing incoming calls is easier than ever before
  • Working remotely is now an option, employees can spend more time with their loved ones
  • VoIP technology has allowed my employees to balance both their professional and personal life more easily

2. Identify What Your Employees Want

This is a short list of what most employees want:

  • Challenges that help them learn and grow professionally
  • Accurate and timely feedback that reflects their performance
  • Clear goals and expectations
  • Recognition for their efforts
  • Create and develop their own ideas to improve performance

3. Reward and Recognize Your Staff

Being recognized and appreciated for doing a good job is a “motivation engine.” Recognize your staff efforts publicly by announcing their accomplishments. You can reward your customers by providing time off, which is highly appreciated. Do not forget to ask your employees about their expectations.

If you want to see for yourself the results of having a motivated workforce, follow the simple steps mentioned above. How do you motivate your employees? What is the most successful way to motivate your employees? Leave a comment below and get the conversation going!
